A Wilder Northeast

9/30/2014

The return of predators in the Northeast will reflect a more fully functional and wild ecosystem, with keystone species fulfilling a dynamic and evolving ecological function in the changing environments that comprise the region. We envision populations of wolves, bears and cougars in numbers that will allow them to re-establish their critical role in nature and ensure their long-term survival.

There are ecological, ethical, and economical reasons for facilitating recovery in the Northeast. We strive to ensure that all stakeholders become active and informed stewards in this mission. Thus, with the introduction of this video, we seek to build positive relationships with residents, organizations, state and federal agencies, and federal legislators in an effort to begin exploring the vital issues that directly impact the future of the wilds in the Northeast.

Thanks to the numerous supporters for the photographs used in this video.

It would be wonderful to see these predators back in the wilds. I would just be concerned that we would have the same problems as some of the Midwest and Western states that are fighting with the wildlife or hunting them. We have to find compromises that benefit both the wildlife and the humans. I don't think it can ever truly be 50/50. Do you know anything in life that is? Uplifting video, Thank you

Well hopefully it wouldn't be as much of an issue since there aren't as many of those federal lands with ranchers on them.

I would be interested in becoming involved with any new efforts to reintroduce wolves to the New England area. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!

There are plenty of woods in the Northeast... If Quebec and Ontario can have wolves - the Northeast can too!
Cougars are more elusive - so they should have an "easier" time..

We must protect these beautiful animals, after all what will be left if we kill them all. Once they are gone, THEY ARE GONE.

Beautiful video, great inspiring words. The vision needed to awaken our minds to what may be lost, if we ignore the scientific community's call.

Two days before Christmas my husband and I saw a very large black wolf with a white face in Cornish NH, I’ve lived here my whole life and am familiar with coyotes and this was definitely not a coyote. It was striking and beautiful to see. We were amazed! If anyone else has seen a wolf near Cornish NH ide love to hear about it!
